I am looking for quality digital photographs of guitars, mandolins, violins, pianos, etc, that are finished with Target Coatings water-based systems, i.e USL, EM6000, 9000sc, HybriVar, EM2000. I will begin to build a archive that will illustrate the use of our products on stringed instruments of all types. Once the photos start to stream in to this subject line I will create a separate room for this specific application.

Please include your name and email address. Optimum pixel size should be 500x300, otherwise it will be compressed during upload. These pictures may be posted on other parts of our web site with name/title credits attached. We will contact you to confirm the use of your photograph. If you do not want to publicly submit your photos and email address please forward it to the address posted below for verification. Lastly, please be honest about the use of our product on the instrument(s) being illustrated. Do not send pictures of instruments finished with solvent or other WB brand finishes. Honor System Only.

Thank you for your assistance in this. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Jeff Weiss

Raw bodies from Warmoth – quilt maple drop tops over swamp ash:

Stained (transtint in water):

Sanded back to pop the figure:

Ultraseal Amber Shellac sealer to keep the dye from bleeding into the topcoats:

Ok step by step is getting boring, so let’s cut to the chase. The grain was filled in the ash with HSF100 mixed with black-tinted EM8800, then sanded back, pigmented toner coat with raw umber, burnt umber, and black pigments in pigments mixed in a slurry of SA5 and stirred with a drill paddle into EM8800 for a semi-transparent brown coat on the sides and back - 2 coats; Hybrivar - 6 coats with no sanding in between (except after the 4th coat); USL topcoats - 8 coats with sanding only after the second coat and a light denibbing after the sixth; Buffing: cured for 120 hours, leveled with 800 dry by hand, and Menzerna 2L, 16, and PO19E with a combination of Surbuf on a RO sander, lambswool buff on a rotary buffer, and a large muslin buff on a drill press (my favorite for guitar bodies). The necks: alcohol-cut shellac prestain conditioner, dye stain, and Hybrivar topcoats.

Ok this one isn’t a guitar, but it is WB Shellac spitcoat, water soluble aniline dye, WB shellac sealer, HSF5100 grain filler, and Ultima Spray Lacquer topcoats:

Now that USL isn’t available, I’m just as happy with EM6000 (in this case with Target stain, alcohol cut shellac, HSF5100 sprayed on and sanded back, and EM6000 gloss topcoats.

I do like the feel (kind of feels like it's already been waxed) of the EM6000 so I’ll use it on the next guitar project.

Sorry to get carried away with non-guitar shots, but it's a great product line.

Here are two pianos refinished using only Target products. The first one is a Hardman grand, walnut with burl inlay panels made in the 1920's and the other is a 1868 Steinway rosewood concert grand.

Jeff, I'll have 2 guitars finished in the next few weeks and several more to follow...all clear coated with Target Coatings. I'll send pics when done.

With this one in the works...

Peace,
Mark

Nice Gits Gents!

Attached are a few pix of some I have built over the past year. All were finished with EM6000. Some had TC's amber shellac as a base.

First up is the one I strung up last week. A claro walnut based on a J-185:

Next up a few shots of a Madagascar RW OM finished around Christmas:

And lastly, the flyfishing SE Asian OM finished last spring:
