I was just wondering if there was enough Target Coating forum members to form a guitar finish section. Is there really enough interest? I'm sure into something like that.
I would think that there would be more and more instrument builders going to water base products due to safety and environmental issues. . I'm sure there is a lot of expensive equipment one could do without.
I thought I would put that out there.

| Sure it's a good idea. but meanwhile if you don't mind the nitro hype and all the talk about rattle cans, there's a good finishing section on the tdpri forum for telecaster enthusiasts. |

Count me in I suck at finishing but I am determined to make it happen
with water based products and these seem to be of the best thats out there
so I am going to stick with it and get the results I need.
The Official luthiers forum had a few EM6000 threads!
I just purchased my first HVLP sprayer and have the EM6000
I am going for a dull finnish thought I would try the matt finnish
Its a different look than most guitars.
I have three guitars in the works and have a only tried my hand at guitar finishing once before. I tried to brush on a water based lacquer the results
were terrible. So here I am giving it a second shot with a sprayer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ie: A finishing schedule
Ill keep posting my successes and mistakes. Hopefully we can get good
guitar finnishing thread going. |

I have put down about six coats over two coats of sanding sealer and see a significant blue haze maybe I am putting it on to thick?
I am going to sand it down and try try again. |

I too have been determined to make this water-based stuff work for me. I build too many guitars and I really really really want to do decent finish work. I learned a lot over at the Reranch forum and I've done a few (semipro) nitro finishes, but I must use less toxic products from now on.
Please see my plea for help in the Top Coatings section - "Witness lines?"
Any help would be much appreciated. I don't want to give up on this, but I don't want to keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result each time. I've heard that's the definition of insanity.
Thanks! |
