Here are some pix of an OM size that I finished recently. It's East Indian Rosewood on the back and sides, Carpathian spruce on the top, koa bindings, maple burl rosette, headplate, heel cap, and tail wedge graft. Finished with EM6000. It's a pleasure to work with.

Thanks for looking.

John

Very nice guys! I haven't contributed to this thread for awhile. I did finish a couple of guitars a few months ago. One of curly mango and the other a black walnut with butternut soundboard. The latter is one cool guitar!

That's sweet, Ken. Looks like curly mango might not be fun to bend. Did you use any contrasting grain filler?

Oh, sure, you cut out the stone, toss it in a blender with some rum, and ... oh wait nevermind.

Seriously, though, I like the responsible/eco-friendly way you used the sapwood in that walnut - years ago they'd have done a three-piece back to avoid that, and yet today you've used it to a serious aesthetic advantage. Bob Taylor made that point about cocobolo in the latest issue of Wood and Steel.

@ Bob - Thanks! The curly mango bent very easily, but it rippled around the lower bout due to the various changes in grain direction. I had to flatten the sides with a few more rim supports than I normally use. I pore filled with zpoxy using no additional tints. I appreciate the feedback on the sapwood too. As you note, folks often cut off the sapwood or will stain to even out the color. I try to avoid staining. Sapwood is perfectly fine to use as long as it is well cured. It always shrinks more than the heartwood so I don't size until I am sure the sapwood is dried.

@Jeff - Yeah you would be wondering about the finish given our conversation later last year. I did try a competitor's product on another guitar around then. Sorry. But that finish didn't burn in like your em6000, nor did it buff well. So I went back to my spray setup and worked on it, replacing hoses and adding better filtration. These are the first two guitars I sprayed with the tweaked setup, and I had zero issues. So yes both these guitars are Em6000 over zpoxy. I have another ready to shoot and two more that I will be shooting in a couple of months, and I will be using your product for those.

Ken
