(VAR7100: Gloss, VAR7200: Semi-Gloss,
VAR7300: Satin, VAR7400: Flat)
Description
Oxford® HybriVar™ Waterborne Alkyd Varnish (VAR7000) is a waterborne, hybrid alkyd urethane coating that dries and cures to very hard, clear film at room temperature without the use of secondary catalysts. Multiple coats of HybriVar can be applied within a 24-hour period allowing for a faster job completion. Oxford® HybriVar is thinned and can be cleaned-up with basic tap water. When cured Oxford® HybriVar Waterborne Alkyd Varnish develops into a hard, durable alkyd film that offers excellent clarity, water and chemical resistance. Specially formulated for brush and spray applications, Oxford® Hybrivar can also be wipe or pad applied for ease of use versatility.

Directions For Use:
All surfaces to be finished must be clean, dry and free of excess contamination. Proper surface preparation is the key to a successful finish.
- Sand surface to be finished with quality, stearate-free sandpaper. The sandpaper grit schedule will vary between 220 to 400-grit depending on the surface condition and type of wood being finished.
After the surface has been sanded and prepared, remove dust with a water-damped, lint-free cloth. DO NOT USE OIL/WAX TACK CLOTHES.
- If the surface to be finished has a grain filler, glaze or solvent-based stain applied to it, ensure that these products are compatible with the HybriVar Varnish by preparing and a test panel before proceeding. If compatibility is in question, seal the opposing surface with Oxford® UltraSeal-WB Shellac Sealer and Barrier Coat before finishing with Oxford® HybriVar.
- Mix varnish gently, than strain through a medium-mesh paint filter before using. Allow the strained varnish to settle before using.
- Apply 1-3 coats Oxford® HybriVar reduced upwards to 20% by liquid volume with distilled water to act as a penetrating sealer coat. Allow each coat to dry for a minimum of 1.5-2 hours, or when the sealer coat gently powders when sanded without clogging the sandpaper. We recommend applying Oxford® Hybrivar with a quality, polyester bristle brush of medium stiffness and bristle length or with a poly-foam brush. Avoid heavy-duty house paintbrushes.
- Apply topcoats of Oxford® HybriVar as supplied, or thinned 5-10% by liquid volume with distilled water. Allow each coat to dry for a minimum of 2 hours before recoating. Sanding between each coat is not required unless: 1) The last/previously applied coat of Oxford® HybriVar has dried for more then 24 hours, 2) Contamination such as dirt, brush bristle fibers, runs and sags are visible in the dried varnish. Lightly sand with 400-grit stearate-free sandpaper to remove imperfections. Allow the finish to dry and cure in a warm, dry area. Final chemical cure takes place after 150 hours at 70F.
Clean-Up:
All Oxford® Water-Based finishes clean up with soap and water. Rinse brushes, spray equipment and other application tools with warm, soapy water, then follow up with a plain, clean water rinse. Do not use alcohol or oil-based solvents to thin or clean up this material.
