Tint with Mixol and you can match anything, anywhere, anytime, any color.

Mixol offers the highest quality Universal Tints on the market. Produced in Germany for more than 35 years, Mixol is compatible with all Oxford® Series and EmTech™ Series coating. The full assortment of 33 colors mixes easily with shellacs, lacquers, primers and fillers.

Mixol is known for its high concentration of pigment, sophisticated color palette, and ease of mixing. They are highly resistant to frost and heat damage. They have an indefinite shelf life, and because they are binder-free, they will not dry out or thicken.

We are offering 15 Mixol Oxide colors to meet the growing demand for adding non-fading pigment colors to our Oxford® Ultima-WR Clear Stain Base for our customers who want to make their own exterior-grade pigment stain. Mixol Oxide colorants can be used with all of our exterior-grade clear bases, cement and mortar and are colorfast and weatherproof.

Range of tinting pastes:

  • MIXOL® multi-purpose tinting paste, an absolutely first-class product "Made in Germany“ that has proved itself for over 30 years.
  • MIXOL® is a highly concentrated, binder-free multi-purpose tinting paste – not a ready paint ! – And it cannot be used in pure form! It can be added to almost any type of paint and /or coating materials.
  • MIXOL® forms no skin or lumps and cannot dry out.
  • MIXOL® is highly resistant to frost and heat.
  • MIXOL® can be stored for many years and is thus extremely economical.

MIXOL® Oxide Tints: WHEN and WHY are they used?

  • In all silicate paints and coatings!
  • In all mineral building materials!
  • In all silicone resin paints and coatings!
  • In all varnishes low in or free from aromatic compounds!
  • insulating varnishes, sealers as well as exterior paints containing solvents.

Continuously increasing demands on the quality and fastness of varnishes, paints and other coatings also require extremely high quality standards of tinting systems like MIXOL®.

With our MIXOL® oxide tints our product range offers a number of inorganic pigments of outstanding quality and fastness that meet even the highest demands!

The MIXOL® product range has always included oxide tints, although the variety of shades was limited. Since January 2000 a number of additional oxide pigments have been available and as they can also be mixed with each other, a wide spectrum of shades is now available.

Advantages of the MIXOL® oxide tints are:
All MIXOL® oxide tints are inorganic mineral pigments (being the oxides of various metals). In this form they remain constant for the whole time, which means they will not change their tint over the years and they cannot even fade. This is most important particularly for outdoor application.

MIXOL® Oxide Tints in silicate paints
MIXOL® oxide tints have always been employed for tinting silicate paints usually used for outdoor application. This is now also an excellent application for the new MIXOL® oxide tints, of course, or any mixtures of these.

Problems arising during the tinting of silicate paints are due to their extremely high alkalinity in a wet state. MIXOL® tinting pastes, which are not of the “oxide types”, may cause problems in silicate paints. There are several reasons for such problems.

Contrary to, and unlike, varnishes and latex, silicate paints do not produce a closed film. The stability of silicate coatings is due to their so-called "silicification". This means the coat of paint remains "open-cell". However, it also means that the pigments included in the coating are very much exposed to any aggressive environmental conditions like light and weather. Only selected high-quality pigments like the MIXOL® oxide tints are resistant to this environmental load.

Moreover depending on the quantity added, the wetting agents necessary in the standard (organic) MIXOL® types may seriously impair the "silicification" of the silicate paints. This may cause water spotting and washed out pigments at the surface.

MIXOL® oxide tints contain different wetting agents which do not affect the "silicification" or the quality of this coating

MIXOL® Oxide Tints in silicone resin paints
Silicone resin paints have high water vapor permeability! In this respect they are almost as good as silicate paints but without having their disadvantageous high water absorption and their high alkalinity. However, they do have a comparable porosity.

If silicone resin paints tinted with standard “non-oxide” MIXOL are applied over a mineral ground, the alkalinity of the ground will adversely affect the pigment. Therefore only MIXOL oxide tints should be used in this situation.

Therefore, only MIXOL® oxide tints (inorganic pigments) can be recommended without restriction for silicone resin paints!

MIXOL® Oxide Tints in varnishes low in or free from aromatic compounds
Another advantage of the MIXOL® oxide tints is their easy application in varnishes low in, or free from aromatic compounds or in other paints that may occasionally cause tinting problems (e.g. insulating paints). As other wetting agents can be used in the MIXOL oxide tints so the above-mentioned material can be tinted.

Even if the costs of oxide pigments, particularly of colored oxide pigments (e.g. blue, green, yellow etc.) are in some cases considerably higher, they are indispensable because of their high quality.

Therefore, always remember:
In silicate paints and other mineral building materials, in silicone resin coatings and in varnishes low in or free from aromatic compounds

use MIXOL® Oxide Tints only!
